About ‘Sell Your Look’
LOS ANGELES - CHICAGO - NEW YORK CITY - LONDON - WORLDWIDE
When Broderick Hunter first entered the modeling world over a decade ago, he had no idea the mountain of success he’d encounter as his career evolved—or the lives he’d end up changing because of it. After an injury made his once-promising basketball career a non-starter, Hunter knew he had to pivot. But he never thought that change in direction would have him starring alongside Ciara in her music video for “Sorry” in 2015, which ended up being the catapult he needed to take his career to the next phase. Nor could he have pictured becoming the face of Ralph Lauren not too many years later, gracing countless runways worldwide, or starring in numerous high-profile fashion, luxury, and lifestyle campaigns.
Now, after being one of the most sought-after faces in the industry, working with Emmy-winning creatives like Issa Rae and cultivating an online presence that’s equal parts aspirational and inspirational, what’s left for Hunter to do? Well, the answer is quite simple. He’s giving back and ready to help those who are seeking to carve out a unique future of their own in the world of modeling and entertainment
Welcome to “Sell Your Look,” a unique and in-depth masterclass created and curated by Hunter that features all the tools and invaluable resources necessary to kick off and sustain the aforementioned career path. Those who choose to partake in it can expect to learn trade secrets in various areas of modeling, including photography mastery, looksmaxxing, self-branding, crafting the perfect pitch to agencies, fashion and acting workshops, and more. Enrollees can also expect to get some up-close and personal learning time from Hunter himself and gain insight taken directly from his long and illustrious career and experiences. Since 2017
“I think when people come to sell your look, they're going to not only get a sense of welcoming themselves more, but unlocking those gifts that they naturally have already possessed since the time they were born,” Hunter explained.
And that’s exactly what “Sell Your Look” is at its core. An opportunity for members to obtain a holistic look at what it means to brand themselves, their talents, and package them in a way that’s authentic to who they are and what they want to offer the world. But before you step foot into the exclusive online community, there’s one thing you ought to know first.
Who Is “Sell Your Look” For? After reading through Hunter’s expansive workbook “Beyond the Lens: The Complete Guide to Modeling and Self-Branding” and pressing play on a handful of introductory videos dedicated to just a few of the pillars of the “Sell Your Look” masterclass, you might wonder if you’re really ready to take the next steps and level up on your quest. Well, let Hunter be the first to assure you that you are— as long as you come into the community with a willingness to learn and a healthy dose of self-acceptance.
“The mindset or skill people need to have before they come to the workshop is self-acceptance. Love and know who you are before you even think about going into somebody's room,” he explained. “It's about being a present in a way. But it's the self-acceptance that allows the person to be and know that they can do the service because service is the purpose. It's not about if you're doing it so well or so perfect. Are you putting in the most honest effort to create the experience that someone else is seeing? So, in ‘Sell Your Look,’ before you come into the workshop, you already have this feeling like, ‘hey, I accept myself, but I know that I have other things that I need to accept as well.’”
He continued, “It's just adding to it, adding to what you already have, because the world is limitless. Our opportunities are limitless. God is limitless. So if we know that, our potential is literally boundless. It’s impossible to create a boundary of where it can end.”
“The self-acceptance part is the first part that you need to continue to grow and nourish that place in your body that's going to allow you to expand and create a better energy and a better presence for you in any room,” he later added.
Additionally, the ideal “Sell Your Look” member is essentially someone who recognizes that they possess gifts that can be used for the greater service of not only their betterment, but also for the betterment of those around them, both on a small and large scale. The ideal member is someone who is ready to see those same gifts maximized and magnified so they can continue to attract the right opportunities and walk through the right doors with the help of one of the industry's most recognizable faces. The ideal member is also someone who’s not only ready for new beginnings, but someone who’s ready to use their voice and embark on a more genuine way of living and working in a way that marries both a passion for modeling and entertainment with personal evolution.
“I believe our biggest currency as human beings is our voice. It's our biggest currency. Even though 90 percent of communication is nonverbal, our voice still resonates through. So practicing how to communicate and practicing how you are registered or reading in a room is what's going to make a huge difference in anyone's career,” the California native said.
He added, “I feel like when it comes down to personal branding in the sense of modeling or being a creative or an artist, personal branding for me is personalizing your authenticity. The affirmations, speaking good upon yourself. Allowing yourself to be able to have permission to speak is what I feel creates a great personal brand and less blockages for people to, uh, express themselves more often.”
What Can People Expect From Broderick Hunter and “Sell Your Look?” In addition to learning some of the best skills, tips, and tricks in modeling, Hunter is adamant that the ultimate goal for the masterclass and the community is to build up “beautiful examples of courage” in others so they can fulfill their respective callings. It’s a pathway for Hunter to take all the good, bad, and ugly he’s witnessed throughout his time in the industry and be a vessel for those who seek to use their outer and inner light. “Sell Your Look,” then, is a gateway for people to use modeling and personal branding to unlock things within themselves that they otherwise wouldn’t have.
“I think with having courage and having people see the courage within themselves, it’s going to open up a lot more doors. And that's what I feel the main thing of “Sell Your Look” is: unlocking those places where people felt like they could not step into because they didn't have the necessary information or the voice behind it, but finding out where you have that strength and how to walk out on faith,” Hunter explained. “This is what’s going to create that big difference. That's the example of my career and through myself and the workshop. It just inspired me to continue to do the things that I've been doing and do it in a way that is of lightness and is a good example of somebody to follow.”
“Because it's never been about me. It never was about me. It was more so about the testimony of how God continues to work through me and how he continues to be a part of our living, breathing selves,” he said.
Hunter’s “Sell Your Look” is also his attempt at bypassing some of the gatekeeping that the modeling industry is notorious for and giving those outside of it a front-row seat to top-tier information. When asked why he wanted to make all of this available to the masses at this scale, Hunter divulged that something like this would’ve been extremely beneficial when he was just starting, so it only made sense to be the help he would’ve wanted. He’s also confident that by implementing the things he’s sharing, others won’t have to endure some of the same pitfalls or make some of the mistakes he did.
“It was a lot of selfishness that where information was just being kept so people could go through the process alone as someone else did,” the “Insecure” star said. “I felt like if there was a time in my life where I started, where I could have an access point where I could know that there's a mentor or someone I could talk to or somebody who could maybe shed light on me, it would've made a big difference just for my mental health.”
He added, “In my community, I think that's the best thing. That I'm able to lend my knowledge and resources from experience and not necessarily just from an idea.”
“Sell Your Look” Helps You See Yourself the Way You’re Supposed to Be Seen. Outside of learning what niches align best with your personal brand, how to nail a photoshoot, and career guidance, Hunter and “Sell Your Look’s” endgame revolves around making sure those who want to get into modeling and entertainment have exactly what they need to the bright light and salt of the Earth that they were created to be. It’s not about height, weight, skin tone, or some other surface-level thing. It’s about facilitating an environment where truthfulness of spirit, genuineness of heart, and intrinsic gifts can be properly highlighted and nurtured to achieve personal and professional success. Breaking past the stereotype of having to have a “certain” look to go far in this industry and the fear that comes with not having it is just one of the many misconceptions Hunter and his work hope to combat.
“The fear of not being accepted is what I feel has blocked a lot of people from starting their careers. It really is out there for people in all hues, textures, all places and walks of life. I think that there's a place for people to get a career start,” Hunter said. “ It's just all about the personal branding aspect of it all. It's not about whether you come out the gate and people obsess over you. It's how much you can continue to show up. It's the show-up factor that creates the opportunity.”
So, after over 10 years in the game and a career that keeps evolving into different entrepreneurial and creative endeavors, who does Broderick Hunter show up as now? Well, outside of being a son, cousin, uncle, actor, artist and overall creative, the decorated model and entertainer revealed he’s simply a light worker. To put it plainly, he’s someone who’s here to be of service, be a voice of the future, fulfill his purpose, and consequently help others do the same using the talents that he was bestowed.
“I don't necessarily look at myself as a beautiful figure where it comes down to it. Like, ‘oh this man is attractive or this man is gonna teach me how to become pretty.’ I think it's more so I create a voice for the self and create a place where that feels safe,” Hunter shared. “I just build up light. I build up fires. I create new understandings through people so they can shed their light more. That's where God created me to be in this place. I'm not meant to be everywhere, doing anything. It's very specific on how He allows me to shed my light in certain rooms, in certain spaces.”
He concluded, “I just am continuing to be an empty vessel to continue to be used and be who I'm supposed to be. To learn things I'm called to learn, study the things I'm supposed to study so I can continue to be an example of a leader in a community that is full of leaders. That's ‘Sell Your Look’ is people who are the leaders of our future, the leaders of our communities. Anything you can see.”
